These cute little bunnies are smart. They’re social too — they will update Facebook and Twitter pages, send emails and read texts.

U.K.-based company Violet launched the third-generation of its Internet-connected smart rabbits called Karotz, and this time they can be fully integrated into social networks. The announcement was made at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

First launched in 2005 as “Nabaztag,” Karotz ($129.99) can respond to questions and requests with the help of advanced voice-recognition software and the Internet to conduct searches and post messages on Facebook and Twitter. It can play music, check for new emails, read the weather forecast, RSS feeds and tweets. The Karotz can share what it sees or hears, using a built-in webcam or microphone. It can then take a picture with its camera and directly upload it to Facebook.

Users can also customize the look of the device with a USB “tail” or Skinz tattoos.

There's a variety of quirky Karotz accessories that can be purchased for the rabbit gadget, including Nanoztag and Flatnanoz key-ring tags which feature RFID chips. These tags can also be used to check in: for example, when a roommate or child gets home, they can swipe the tag against the Karotz and it will send an email alert to the owner to let them know where they are.

There is a Karotz Controller app which lets users give the gadget orders remotely. The app is available in the Apple App Store and Android Market.

The Karotz smart rabbit is now available at Karotz.com and various retailers, including Amazon, Brookstone and Thinkgeek.com. The rabbit can also be “followed” @Karotz.
